Blogs > A day in the life of a journalist

I am a staff writer for The News-Herald Newspaper in Southgate. This blog will be about the life of a young, fresh-out-of-college journalist who is experiencing new things and learning not only about the communities I cover, but the nation and the world as a whole every day.

5 funny things in our newsroom: Volume 1

To brighten your day and give you a good chuckle, every week I am going to take pictures of five hilarious things that are in, or happen in, our newsroom here at The News-Herald.

This is our white board. We write random things on here, our boss writes when timesheets are due or when there are meetings and sometimes people write about who is pregnant on the board. It's main purpose, however, is to write when one of us has time off or will be late (whether we have the day off or will be in court).
Note the bottom line. Our staff writer David Komer is at the North Pole this morning, he will return in the afternoon. Interesting. I'm jealous.

Another board to tell our bosses where we are.Except instead it tells us four crucially important details about our newsroom: Sanity is always out, Elvis is always in, good taste is always in and Bob is always in ... although I've never met him.

These two pictures count as one item: lack of life. We have dead plants hanging from the ceiling and sitting on our desks. Enough said.

This lively Poinsettia goes along with the previous pictures. However, it's a symbol of how long things live here. It just arrived here yesterday. I'm posting a picture now so when I post one next week of it wilted, you'll get my point.

This is Jackie Brown! She came to visit our newsroom and signed autographs for all of us! Or someone who wants to be like her pretended to be her and signed a piece of paper with a black-and-white picture of the movie cover on it ... same thing, right?
 See ya next time! :)
